The Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) leads this movement with an SGD30 million (USD 22.4 million) fund for green computing research and solutions. This fund will facilitate collaborations between researchers and industry to develop innovative software designs that optimize energy efficiency, highlighting the need for new technologies to measure and reduce the ICT sector’s carbon footprint. The Green Software Foundation, which Singapore joined in 2023, aims to establish industry standards for carbon efficiency in software.

The region is launching trials to test carbon reduction techniques in software development to ensure practical application. These trials, involving major players like Amazon Web Services and the Singapore Institute of Technology, aim to validate the effectiveness of these techniques in real-world scenarios. Additionally, it has introduced digital solutions targeting resource optimization and carbon management. These solutions, supported by up to 70% funding under IMDA’s Advanced Digital Solutions program, include automated ESG data management, real-time carbon emissions tracking for fleet vehicles, and AI-powered decarbonization platforms.
